"in boxes" really does not mean much

They could have thousands of hours of abuse then put back in their boxes. Seller is full of it about the Altec and EV amps carrying the same model numbers. I've owned both.

9444B is the same amp as an EV 2600A

I do not think there is an EV version of the 9444A which makes me think Altec built it, maybe some of the younger guys can chime in as these are after my day.

I know it's not the same as NIB, but it suggests that the condition is other than what you suggest...... no guarantee, Though.

Yes, I thought his info was a bit messed up. I don't recall the details, but I beleive we've had someone on the board that was involved in the 9444A design, or at least had good knowledge of it. I'm pretty sure it was Altec designed.

ALTEC LANSING built the 9444's, NOT Electro-Voice. In fact, Altec built all of the 9444-type amps, even the ones with the "EV" logo.

EV's factory in Korea built the 9441's....

I assume Iratech works on them. I just took one apart yesterday. I bought it non-working/un-tested. It is missing the fan and already had a few connectors undone. It's also filthy. I've always intended to clean it up and get it going, but I'm not sure I can hook everything back up after taking it apart. I also thought about re-boxing it and trying to eliminate certain things, but I don't really know what I'm doing electrically, so that may not be possible. I may just try parting it out on ebay. I've got one that works already.

Oh..... the 9444A is supposed to be pretty good, I like it. I've never done much comparing, or critical listening, Though.

Ok, I'm the guy and I thought I read somewhere that EV built these, but I will defer to Todd's expertise. I got these from a guy who used them in a home theater (front, rear & center). They do not appear to be abused in any way an look great. I've run them through a PA and they sound good. Also A/B'd them to a Panasonic SPEC-1 amp. The SPEC-1 won over the 9441A (which I'd have guessed), but the 9441A still sounded pretty good. The 9444A had a bit more bottom end then the SPEC-1 but I couldn't five up the VU meter's on the SPEC-1. I may still keep one 9444A as a backup for stereo and PA.

If there are questions, I'll be glad to answer them if I can.

P.S. Some people really like boxes. I like em so I can ship if I have to.

Nothing wrong with offering the boxes, it just seemed you were using that to represent condition.

Todd is going to be right as he worked there. I was around way earlier and am far from an authority on newer stuff. I miss whitebroncoii, anybody know him?
